Welcome to Foundation 1

Mrs P Woodacre

In Foundation 1, we have lots of fun exploring materials!

Come & Meet The Teachers In Our Foundation Unit

Welcome to our Foundation Unit.  We hope that you will enjoy your child's stay with us.  Our friendly staff consists of Mrs Woodacre, Mrs Neal, Mrs Brown, Ms Guite and Mrs Merry.

The Foundation Unit is made up of two classes:  Foundation 1, for the younger children and Foundation 2, for the older pupils.

The curriculum is play-centred.  There are six key areas of learning -

  • PSE - Personal, social and emotional
  • CLL - Communication, language and literacy
  • MD - Mathmatical development
  • KU - Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • PD - Physical development
  • CD - Creative development

A topic-based approach is used to make learning fun and meaningful!

Routines

  • School starts at 8:50am and ends at 11:20am for the part-time in Foundation 1 and 2.  The morning session ends 12:15 for the full-timers.
  • In the afternoon, school starts at 1:00pm for the part-timers and at 1:30pm for the full-timers in Foundation 2.
  • If your child is to be collected from school by someone other than yourself, please fill in the form outside Room 1.
  • We do ask parents to help occasionally or on a regular basis.  Please see the foundation staff or fill in the Helpers' rota if you can oblige.
  • P.E lessons take place on Thursdays (Full-timers) and on Wednesdays for everybody.  A school P.E kit is required for Foundation 2 whilst the children in Foundation 1 are requested to wear joggers/shorts and trainers.
  • A drink is provided for all children in Foundation 1 and the part-timers in Foundation 2.  Full-timers are encouraged to bring in a drink of water in a labelled bottle.
  • If your child wants a school lunch, please send the money in a labelled envelope to the office.
  • Each week a new letter sound is learnt.  To support your child's learning, please encourage him/her to bring in an item begining with the week's letter sound each day.
  • On Fridays the children in Foundation 1 learn a new colour or shape.  Likewise, on this day, they can wear the week's colour to school or bring a coloured toy.

  • A maths game is sent home weekly for the full timers in Foundation 2.  We ask you to play this a number of times with your child and return it intact on the following Thursday.
  • Classroom rules encourage a child to behave in an appropriate way.  There are rewards for good behaviour.
  • A report on your child's progress is sent out befor he/she commences full time education and termly thereafter.
  • A class trip is organised in the Summer Term.
